Understanding the Online and Delayed contact labels

What the two status labels mean, who sets them, and what they deliberately do not claim.

Only two labels

Every contact on this site is either Online or Delayed. There is no third state, because a longer list would suggest a precision that is not there.

  • Online - the channel is in normal use.
  • Delayed - replies on that channel are slower than usual at the moment.

Set by a person, not a robot

An administrator sets each label by hand from the management portal. This website does not connect to WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord or e-mail to test whether they are answering, and it does not claim to.

That is why every label is shown with a last updated timestamp. The timestamp is the honest part: it tells you how recent the judgement is.

Why colour is never the only signal

Online is green and Delayed is amber, but each label also carries its own words and its own icon. Colour alone is unreadable for a lot of people and disappears entirely in a screen reader, so it is never asked to do the work by itself.

What a Delayed label should make you do

Move to another official channel. The contacts page can name a recommended alternative directly on the card, and the status page lists everything in one view.

What it should not make you do

Look for an unofficial number. A delay is exactly when a lookalike account is most tempting - and most damaging.
